We hope this email finds you safe and healthy. As we contend with the known and unknown challenges of COVID-19, we recognize that life is dramatically more difficult for many people today than it was a few weeks ago. 

Because women have faced discrimination on a daily basis throughout their lives, a crisis like COVID-19 can quickly make bad situations worse and dire ones deadly. The gender pay gap, the threat of domestic violence, and the strain of caring for children or elderly family members can greatly add to the level of anxiety and vulnerability a woman already feels for herself and her family.  Women are also more likely to work in low-paying jobs or have positions that do not offer benefits. And, women comprise the majority of health care workers and grocery store employees who are on the front-lines of this national emergency.

As the coronavirus spreads, the deep inequalities in our health care system become even more apparent and problematic. CWLC remains an active advocate for meaningful and accessible health care for all, including low-income women and families, and we are vigilant in our effort to ensure affordable reproductive health care services are available to all Californians. Click here to read our recent article published in Ms. Magazine on the status of Title X.
