Today, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, commemorating women’s hard-fought victory officially gaining the right to vote (Congress passed the law in 1919, it was ratified on August 18th and finally certified on August 26th, 1920). We recognize that women’s equality remains on ongoing effort. We encourage everyone to stay active in this fight– here are a few ways CWLC is helping effect change: Recognizing Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, which was on August 22 and represented how far into 2019 a Black woman in the U.S. must work to earn the same amount that an average white man earned in 2018. Latina Equal Pay Day will be November 20. Driving the conversation of Title IX and gender discrimination on school campuses. Read our most recent article in Ms. Magazine to learn how a recent court ruling on fraternity hazing could improve the safety of women on campus. Advocating for survivors of domestic violence. CWLC recently filed two amicus briefs seeking to protect mothers and their children from abusive partners, and urging judges to give full and fair consideration to all evidence presented in restraining order hearings.
