In 2005, a girls’ softball team in the Sweetwater Union High School District asked their school to provide them with the same resources as the boys baseball team. Their request was denied. So this team of young women, led Veronica as lead plaintiff, partnered with CWLC to file a lawsuit and hold their school accountable for violating Title IX. And, we won. Our victory in court gave girls in this Central Valley community the same athletic opportunities as their male classmates. Veronica was a dedicated player and proved to be a strong advocate for her community. This experience helped her find her voice and a passion for speaking up. You can watch her story in her own words here.
