In 2015 and 2016 the Los Angeles Sparks broke records and barriers, by impacting the community through sport and setting a new franchise record for the first STAPLES Center sell out in Sparks Franchise history. This was all made possible by their team of Ambassadors, which includes CWLC.

On June 2nd, the California Women’s Law Center hosted a conversation with Hon. Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, the Chief Justice of California, and Betsy Butler, CWLC Interim Executive Director. California’s Chief Justice addressed the limitations and far-reaching consequences of an under-funded court system. These financial challenges profoundly impact access to justice for women and girls in our state.
In June 2014, CWLC honored US Senator Barbara Boxer and UC Berkeley School of Law Professor Nancy Lemon at the 2014 Pursuit of Justice Awards. Thank you again to all of our guests and our sponsors who made the event such a success and our work possible.

On March 19th, O’Melveny & Meyers, LLP, generously hosted an evening with Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey. She spoke before an engaged audience and argued for the expansion of alternative sentencing courts in order to help address prison and jail overcrowding in California.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on January 22nd at Latham & Watkins for David Codell on the topic of “Gender Stereotyping & Anti-LGBT Discrimination.” We had a wonderful turnout and an engaged audience.
David Codell is a nationally respected litigator who recently became Constitutional Litigation Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), after having served as Visiting Legal Director of the Williams Institute, UCLA School of Law’s think tank focusing on sexual orientation and gender identity law and policy.
On Friday, July 19th, the California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) was joined by the Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center, the Inner City Law Center, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office, Public Counsel and Levitt & Quinn to provide a wide range of services to women veterans at the Third Annual Female Veterans Stand Down hosted by the United States Veterans Initiative (U.S. Vets). CWLC was proud to organize this collaboration between non-profit, private and government attorneys. The Stand Down took place in Long Beach, California and is the largest event of its kind in the country.
