Support Students and Take Action Against Proposed Title IX Changes!

The rights and safety of women in the United States continue to be challenged. Over the last two years, the current administration has marginalized American women and girls on several fronts, and now Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has proposed new regulations that will strip away vital protections for survivors of sexual assault and harassment in schools.

We are writing to urge you to join CWLC in showing our opposition to the administration’s latest attempt to weaken protections on school campuses across the country. Enacted in 1972, Title IX is a federal law created to ensure all educational institutions receiving federal financial assistance are free from gender discrimination.

The regulations the administration proposed on November 16, 2018 threaten the safety of women and girls in our schools by weakening or eliminating important protections for victims of sexual assault and harassment. The proposed regulations include narrowing the definition of harassment, removing online and off-campus incidents from protection, and risking re-traumatization of victims by requiring them to interact with their assailants.

We need your help. Please consider sharing your concerns about the proposed regulations with United States Department of Education Secretary DeVos. The deadline to respond is Monday, January 28. Because the regulations are not yet final, the Department of Education is required to respond to every comment submitted. Please make your voice heard here.
